about

Come Find Me wasn’t written for the people whose lives are together. No, this song is speaking directly to people who are broken-hearted and struggling with trauma. It’s no doubt that 2020 has been a year that was wrought with consecutive and concurrent traumatic events. From having to witness so many loved ones have lost their lives to the pandemic to publicly witnessing the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many others-- society has still pushed forward not really allowing room to grieve. The aim of “Come Find Me” is to reassure the listener that it is okay, to not be okay and to give themselves space to get in touch with themselves so that they can heal. Alexis Lombre learned about this first-hand. In order to release this song she needed to find herself and find her own sound-- and that took 5 years from the day she wrote it in the college practice rooms. During this time, she dropped in and out of college and struggled with her own mental health issues but along the way she worked with many producers including Kate Derringer, Nova Zaii, Isaiah Sharkey, and Eddie Burns who all aided Lombre greatly in cultivating her own sound. Influenced by J-Dilla, Esperanza Spalding and Herbie Hancock, Lombre’s focus is on the message of healing, not on conforming to the ‘rules’ of any one musical genre. Come Find Me” which she describes as “lyrically, a gospel song; harmonically, a jazz song and rhythmically, a hip-hop/R&B song. I didn’t create the song with any borders”. As JazzTimes puts it “Lombre realized early on that by refusing to be constrained by convention— whether so-called “jazz” or otherwise—she’d be honoring, rather than defiling, the rich heritage she’d come to embrace.”

lyrics

You're wasting the days
Bathing in your pride
Rather look away
Then prevent your own demise
You have all your amenities
Yet you can't look at yourself in the eyes
Demons race all through your mind
While you lie still as the night

If you want somewhere to go,
A place you could call home
Come find me, I'll be waiting
Come find me, I'll be waiting

Crumbling to pieces
As always I see you stepping light
So none could ever hurt you
No blood could keep you from taking flight
Have patience with yourself
As you will fall before you get it right
Honesty with yourself is stronger
Than any drugs and flashing lights

Come find me, I'll be waiting
Come find me, I'll be waiting
